Speech Recording - Studio & On Location

Donald Macleod, presenting Composer of the Week for BBC Radio 3The Classical Recording Company’s purpose-built speech studio provides the ideal location for speech recording of between one and three voices. Regularly used by the BBC, it has all the facilities you would expect in terms of talk-back and cuing, and is tie-lined to both of our SADiE equipped post-production suites for direct to disk recording.

As well as broadcast work, the studio is regularly used for commentaries, audio books and audio-guides, and we are experienced in recording and editing in European languages as well as Japanese, Cantonese, Russian and even Hebrew.

We are happy to assist with voice casting and have high-speed on-line access to the world’s largest sound effects and library music database.

One new development is remote production; by integrating voice-over-IP into our comms equipment, the producer may do his/her job from anywhere with a PC and broadband connection. This could be from their office, at home, or even on the beach! - [REMOTE PRODUCTION]

We also have equipment for recording speech on location, indoors or outdoors, as well as comprehensive rigs for location drama work and sound effect recording.

Case Study: Acoustiguide tour for Bath Museum of Costume

Acoustiguide are regular users of our speech studio; recording, editing, mixing and mastering multi-language audio tours for clients throughout the UK.

The tour for the Bath Museum of Costume, produced by Pippa Vaughan, was a typical project, recorded in six languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch) and mixed with music and sound effects throughout. As is often the case, the scripts were not finalized until a few days before the exhibition opened, and to complete the recording and post-production in time we used both Edit Studios and the Speech Studio so that whilst one language was being recorded, another could be mixed and mastered.

The Acoustiguide handset for the tour requires audio to be hardware encoded at Acoustiguide’s New York office, so the finished audio was transferred to the States in MP3 format via the FTP system “SwapDrive”, and was duly encoded and returned to be programmed into the handsets in time for the opening of the exhibition.
